Shutdown Behavior

This update of TINA OS improves the configuration of VMs' shutdown behavior and the traceability of VM stops. The following changes have been applied:

  • A new ShutdownBehaviorConfiguration parameter has been added to the OUTSCALE API methods CreateVms, ReadVms, and UpdateVm. This parameter allows you to define the behavior of a VM, depending on the source of the shutdown, using two subparameters:

    • HostAction is used to define the behavior in case of an incident impacting the VM.

    • GuestAction is used for shutdowns requested from the host system.

    This parameter is an alternative to VmInitiatedShutdownBehavior, that is now deprecated and will be deleted in the future.

    For more information, see Recommendations for Ensuring Resilient Environments on the OUTSCALE IaaS > Using the ShutDownBehavior Attribute.

  • A new OUTSCALE API method is available to get information about the stop history of VMs. This method allows you to identify why and when your VMs stopped, and to distinguish voluntary stops from infrastructure incidents. For more information, see ReadVmsStopHistory.

Minor Improvements

  • The values returned by the OUTSCALE API’s StateReason parameter have been standardized. For more information, see Creating VMs > VM State Reference.

  • The ak/sk parameter of the OUTSCALE API CreateSnapshotExportTask and the OsuAkSk parameter of the FCU API CreateImageExportTask methods are now ignored, and will be deprecated in a future release.

  • UEFI is now the default boot mode for VMs created from an OMI supporting both UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes.

  • The responses of some API methods now include a state element returning the lifecycle status of the load balancer (provisioning, starting, reloading, active, reconfiguring, deleting, deleted).

  • The OUTSCALE API DeleteLoadBalancer method’s response now returns full information about the deleted load balancer.

  • The OUTSCALE API UpdateAccessKey method now supports tag management parameters (Tag, ClearTag) and a ClearExpirationDate parameter to explicitly remove the expiration date. The expiration date is no longer deleted when the ExpirationDate parameter is omitted.

Miscellaneous OKS API Improvements

  • New methods have been added:

    • The GetProjectNets method allows you to retrieve the Net details for a specific project by its ID.

    • The GetClientIP method allows to retrieve the IP of the client making the request.

Trusted Platform Module

A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a security standard that ensures the secure storage and management of element useful or necessary for virtual machines (VMs) authentication. It is implemented as a dedicated physical chip embedded in devices, acting as a secure enclave enhancing the security of your VMs.

TPM helps ensure that your operating system and firmware are authenticated and trusted. To provide this level of security on all your VMs, 3DS OUTSCALE provides a virtual TPM (vTPM) which is the emulation of a physical TPM.

A vTPM is a virtual device stored as a file that can be associated with a VM. It stores elements such as:

  • encryption keys,

  • identifiers, passwords, fingerprints,

  • certificates, signatures, hashing.

Additional Features for Secure Boot

Two new features are now available for secure boot:

  • Import and export images with secure boot: You can now export and import OMIs that are configured with secure boot. For more information, see Copying an OMI.

  • Secure boot factory key restoration: A new restore-factory-keys action has been added. When triggered, this action resets the secure boot keys of a VM to the original factory keys provided by 3DS OUTSCALE. The reset is applied at the next VM boot. For more information, see About Secure Boot.

BSU Volume Update

New Behavior

From now on, it is possible to resize a BSU volume, modify its type, or its number of I/O operations per second (IOPS) while it is attached to a running virtual machine (VM). For more information, see About Volumes and Modifying a Volume.

Tags Added to Flexible GPUs

Rolling Upgrade Strategy for Node Pools

You can now define an upgrade strategy per node pool during worker node upgrades. This includes:

  • Enabling rolling upgrades for minimal disruption

  • Protecting specific nodes from being upgraded

This provides more control and flexibility during cluster maintenance. For more information, see Node Pool Manifest Reference > Upgrade Strategy Manifest.

New Option For OKS Commands

You can now use the wide option to display additional information for each cluster when using the oks-cli cluster list command. Note that some information previously shown by default may now be visible only when using this option. The cluster get command remains unaffected.

Scheduled Kubernetes & OMI Version Upgrades

Node pools now automatically upgrade when their Kubernetes or OMI version differs from the cluster or defined spec. These upgrades occur during a configurable maintenance phase, allowing precise control over upgrade timing. For more information, see Node Pool Manifest Reference.

Node Protection During Upgrades

To prevent accidental data loss, nodes with hostPath volumes or custom storage are now automatically excluded from upgrades. This ensures critical workloads remain unaffected during version updates.

Multi-Subregion Control Planes

You can now deploy high availability control planes in multi-Subregion clusters. In case of a multi-Subregion deployment, each Subregion must be defined using a separate zone option at cluster creation. For more information, see Creating a Cluster.

Improved Node Pool Labeling

The VPC ID of the worker nodes is now automatically added as a label to the node pool. This facilitates network peering management by making VPC identification easier at node pool-level.

New UEFI Boot Mode

When Virtual Machines (VMs) boot, the firmware (first software ran) responsible for initializing the platform and providing system interfaces is historically called BIOS (also known as legacy). It has been now replaced by the UEFI system. From this TINA OS update, you can now create VMs from a UEFI boot system in place of the BIOS.

This major evolution in our infrastructure features several advantages over the BIOS: boot time, stability, robustness, security. For more information, see About Boot Modes.

Secure boot is a security mechanism specified in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) to ensure that only approved boot software is executed. The feature protects against rootkit and bootkit malware, and helps to prevent attacks by ensuring that all components and configurations involved in the boot chain are trusted.

The secure boot feature becomes a compliance requirement for some industries such as healthcare, defense, finance, and aerospace. Moreover, future versions of Windows will require secure boot to work.

To enable secure boot, you need to create a virtual machine (VM) from an OUTSCALE machine image (OMI) compatible with UEFI. For more information, see Enabling or Disabling Secure Boot.

Unique Identifiers Added to Keypairs

To enhance consistency across our cloud resources and ease their management, keypairs now include a unique identifier (ID) available as a KeypairId attribute in the OUTSCALE API.

The new KeypairId attribute is not a substitute of the current KeypairName attribute. The KeypairName attribute remains fully functional.

Each keypair created receives its ID upon creation.
For existing keypairs, they will be assigned an ID without any impact on your usage.

Tags Added to Keypairs

Keypairs now support the use of tags.

Tags are labels that enable you to categorize your resources and identify them. For example, you can use tags to make inventories of your resources, as you can filter resources that share the same tag. For more information, see About Tags and Adding or Removing Tags.

Behavior of CreateNetPeering (OUTSCALE API)

In the previous TINA OS update, the AccepterOwnerId parameter was added to the CreateNetPeering OUTSCALE API method as optional.

From this update, in the case of sharing a Net peering connection between two Nets belonging to two different users, the AccepterOwnerId parameter is now mandatory.

Starting Virtual Machines (VMs)

We are continuously improving the performances of the OUTSCALE Cloud, especially the duration of VMs start times.

The first visible advances are available in this release of TINA OS.

Many more improvements are still on the way in the coming months.

Parameter Removed From the Flexible Compute Unit (FCU) API

In the FCU API, it is no longer possible to get the product types associated to snapshots.

For security reasons, or because of the capacity of your software solutions, you might want to delegate the control of network traffic to an appliance.

To do this, you can send all external network traffic to a VM running an appliance.

Matching Behavior Between CreateNetPeering (OUTSCALE API) and CreateVpcPeeringConnection (FCU API)

The PeerOwnerId parameter of the CreateVpcPeeringConnection FCU API method is now added to its corresponding OUTSCALE API CreateNetPeering method under the name AccepterOwnerId.

This integration is done in two steps:

  1. In this version, the AccepterOwnerId parameter is added as optional in the OUTSCALE API. It is included in this release to enable users and tools to integrate it as of now.

  2. In a future version, this parameter will be mandatory in the case of sharing a Net peering connection between two Nets belonging to two different users.

Consistency of the IsSourceDestChecked Parameter

In the OUTSCALE API, the value of the IsSourceDestChecked parameter in the primary Network Interface Card (NIC), with 0 as device index, is now consistent with the IsSourceDestChecked parameter of the VM.

This improvement is also applied in the Flexible Compute Unit (FCU) API with the sourceDestCheck parameter of the Flexible Network Interface (FNI) that is consistent with the sourceDestCheck parameter of the instance.

CPU Performances

CPU performance has been improved across all our Regions.

The placement of vCores of new virtual machines has been optimized, through better support for NUMA (non-uniform memory access) zones in Intel processors.

Network Performances

The network performance has been improved across all our Regions.

For the newly created Nets, the network can now handle a larger number of packets per second, and bandwidth capacity has been increased.

Fixes and Minor Improvements

  • In the RouteTable methods of the OUTSCALE API, the GatewayId parameter can now return the local value.

  • In the OUTSCALE API, the creation of a Net peering between a Net you own and a Net that belongs to another account has been fixed.

  • You can no longer use outscale-elb-sg as the name of a security group. This name is reserved to 3DS OUTSCALE’s usage.

  • The performance of the FCU API DescribeInstances method has been improved. You can now get information from a larger number of VMs simultaneously.
