Setting Up MFA for Your Account Using WebAuthn or an OTP

Using Cockpit v2, you can set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your OUTSCALE account to increase its security. MFA combines one primary authentication method either with a security key or device biometrics (WebAuthn), or with a one-time password (OTP) using an authentication application.

  • WebAuthn is a web standard using public key cryptography, that allows to authenticate on web applications through a security key (via USB, like a YubiKey, or built into your smartphone or tablet) or through the biometrics authentication on your computer or smartphone.

  • An OTP is a short sequence of autogenerated numbers delivered in an application. It is only available for one short period of time, thus making it more difficult to use maliciously.

For more information about authentication, see About Authentication.

We recommend you set up several methods of authentication (for example an OTP and a security key, or a security key and a device with biometrics authentication). This will help you avoid getting locked out of your account in the event of a loss of one of the devices. This way, you will still be able to log in to your account, delete the registered OTP or device that has been lost, and set up a new one.

If you do lose the only device you were relying on, please contact our Support team. For more information, see Technical Support.
